Landscape & Seascape Painting

In Oils or Acrylics!

Landscape & Seascape Painting Pathway – From First Horizon to Exhibition-Ready Mastery

Our Landscape & Seascape Painting Pathway is designed to take you from your first horizon line to creating ambitious, exhibition-quality natural scenes. Starting with techniques introduced in our Art Fundamentals: Line, Tone & Colourcourse, you’ll explore the drama and beauty of land, sea, and sky across three progressive levels – each building your technical skills, artistic confidence, and personal style. Choose to work in acrylic for vibrant layers and quick results, or oil for rich colour and smooth blending – your tutor will guide you in your chosen medium.

Level 1 – Landscape & Seascape Foundations (Beginner)

Building on the basics from the Art Fundamentals course, Level 1 introduces composition principles, colour mixing for natural scenes, and brush techniques for capturing textures like waves, clouds, trees, and rocks. You’ll work from both photographic references and preparatory sketches to complete small-scale landscapes or seascapes that capture light and atmosphere.

Level 2 – Landscape & Seascape Development (Intermediate)

Level 2 focuses on more complex and atmospheric scenes. You’ll refine your layering and glazing skills, experiment with light and weather effects, and capture movement in water and skies. Projects may include coastal sunsets, misty valleys, or dramatic stormscapes, allowing you to develop greater depth and realism in your work.

Level 3 – Landscape & Seascape Mastery (Advanced)

At this stage, you’ll create ambitious, large-scale works or themed series. You’ll master advanced light and weather effects, from soft dawn light to turbulent seas, and develop a cohesive body of work suitable for exhibition or portfolio presentation. This is your chance to push your creative boundaries and refine a signature style in your chosen medium.

Progression & Certificates

Each level includes personalised tutor feedback and a certificate. Many students complete all three levels, building a body of work that showcases their growth and mastery in landscape and seascape painting.
