What we’ll cover each week

Week 1 – Getting Started with Acrylics Begin with the essentials of acrylic painting, including materials, brushes, paint handling, and how to mix colours effectively. You’ll create a simple introductory study while getting comfortable with the medium.

Week 2 – Summer Colour & Simple Landscapes Explore how to mix fresh, vibrant summer colours and use them in a simple landscape painting. Focus on skies, fields, water, or garden scenes while learning how to build a composition.

Week 3 – Texture, Layers & Brushwork Develop confidence using different brushes and techniques to create texture and depth. You’ll experiment with layering paint and expressive mark-making to bring more life into your work.

Week 4 – Painting Flowers & Natural Forms Work from summer-inspired subjects such as flowers, foliage, or botanical references. Learn how to simplify shapes, observe colour changes, and create soft yet lively compositions.

Week 5 – Developing a More Finished Painting Bring together the skills from previous weeks to create a more resolved acrylic painting. Focus on structure, colour balance, and refining details while developing confidence in your own approach.

Week 6 – Personal Summer Painting In the final session, create a finished piece inspired by the themes explored throughout the course. This is a chance to work more independently with tutor support, building a painting that feels personal and expressive.
