Why Every Artist Should Try Life Drawing – Introducing Our Weekly Life Drawing Studio in Chester

If you’ve ever wanted to improve your drawing skills, gain confidence with the human figure, or simply spend an evening immersed in creativity, our new Weekly Life Drawing Studio at The Art School, Chester is the perfect place to start.

Launching on Tuesday 21st July, this welcoming weekly session offers artists of all abilities the opportunity to work from a professional life model in a relaxed and inspiring studio environment.

Why Life Drawing?

Life drawing has been at the heart of artistic training for centuries. Whether you’re interested in fine art, illustration, painting, sculpture or simply enjoy sketching, drawing from a live model is one of the most effective ways to improve your skills.

Unlike working from photographs, life drawing helps you understand:

  • Human anatomy and proportion

  • Light, shadow and form

  • Gesture and movement

  • Composition

  • Observation and accuracy

  • Confidence in your drawing

Many of history’s greatest artists, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Degas, regularly practised life drawing throughout their careers.

Suitable for Complete Beginners and Experienced Artists

One of the biggest misconceptions about life drawing is that you need to be an experienced artist before attending.

You don’t.

Our Weekly Life Drawing Studio welcomes everyone—from complete beginners wanting to learn the fundamentals through to experienced artists looking for regular practice.

There is no pressure, no formal teaching and no expectation. Simply enjoy two hours of uninterrupted creative time while drawing from a professional life model alongside other artists in our friendly studio.

Everything is Included

Unlike many life drawing sessions, you don’t need to bring anything.

Your £15 session includes:

  • Professional life model

  • All drawing materials

  • Easels and drawing boards

  • Friendly studio environment

  • Two hours of creative practice

Just arrive, relax and enjoy drawing.

A Creative Escape During the Week

Life is busy.

Our Tuesday evening studio offers something increasingly rare—two hours away from phones, emails and everyday distractions.

Many of our students describe art as a form of mindfulness. Focusing on observation, line and tone allows your mind to slow down while developing valuable artistic skills at the same time.

Whether you come every week or simply whenever you can, you’ll leave feeling refreshed, inspired and motivated.
