Have you always wanted to try pottery but weren't sure where to begin?

An Introduction to Clay is a welcoming 6-week course designed for complete beginners who would like to explore the exciting world of ceramics. Through guided tuition and hands-on practice, you'll learn the foundations of working with clay while creating your own unique handmade pieces.

With a strong focus on pottery wheel techniques, you'll learn how to transform a simple lump of clay into beautiful functional pottery, while gaining an understanding of the wider ceramic process from forming and decorating through to glazing and firing.

What You'll Learn

  • Preparing and wedging clay

  • Centring clay on the pottery wheel

  • Throwing bowls, cups and vessels

  • Trimming and refining forms

  • Adding handles and decorative details

  • Surface decoration techniques

  • Glazing and finishing your work

  • Understanding the kiln firing process
